Critical conversation about race closes “Red Green Black” exhibit
July 19th — A team of graduate students from IUPUI’s School for Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) organized a closing reception for the Center for Interfaith Cooperation’s art exhibit “Red,Black, Green.” The exhibit brought together works by some of Indy’s finest African American artists. (See images of the opening reception here.) The students put together “Critical Conversations about Race”: an opportunity for people of different races, ages, and genders to talk candidly about the racial problems we face, and about what we think should be done. Some of the artists from the exhibit led the discussions at each table, offering a different perspective on these issues than we might find customary. The excellent discussion closed with each table collaborating on a piece of art representing the community they would like to see in the future.
