Mental Health & Healthy Congregations workshop

April 18th CIC’s Immigrant and Refugee Service Corps partnered with CTS’s Counselling Center on “Mental Health and Healthy Congregations,” a workshop for Latino pastors. Pastors, community leaders and mental health professionals explored the challenges that we are facing but also the many resources available to our community.According to CIC’s Charlie Wiles:

  • The Latino Pastors training brought together a unique group of Indianapolis clergy that were all interested in learning and sharing how their ministry can help to provide better access to mental health care for their congregants
  • There were mental health resources shared by Reverend Hector Hernandez and Damaris Franco, IRSC members serving at the Counseling Center, that appeared to be very useful for the clergy present
  • The meeting felt like a first- a model of ethnic self help resource sharing, identifying common issues, using an asset based approach and building a network to help sustain and strengthen future efforts
