Beards and turbans abounded on October 10 with the first Sikh Day Parade in Indianapolis. Governor Mike Pence was in attendance, and surprised CIC board member KP Sign with the “Sagamore of the Wabash,” the highest award bestowed by the state of Indiana.
Hardarshan Singh Valia, one of the world’s most respected coal scientists, attended the Center for Interfaith Cooperation’s 2nd Interfaith Banquet. Dr. Valia reflects on the significance of KP Singh being named the Interfaith Ambassador of the Year:
On March 3th, the Indiana Interchurch Center, the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis and the Center for Interfaith Cooperation hosted a talk by Micha Feldmann, one of the chief architects of the massive migration of Ethiopian Jews to Israel in the 1980s and early 1990s.

A Different View Film Series kicked off August 20 with a screening of “Arranged.” Two young women – one an Orthodox Jew, the other Muslim – learn they share much in common, not least of which is that they are both going through arranged marriages. It was a great film, but everyone agreed that even better was the discussion afterward.

On August 6th, over 20 people attended CIC’s Sacred Space Tour of the An Lac Temple and Soka Gakkai Buddhist Centre. Visitors learned about the different varieties of Buddhism that have taken root in Indy and marveled at the beautiful art and environment of the temples.
One of the exciting initiatives CIC is proud to support is Kizito Kalima’s outreach to newly arrived Congolese refugees resettling in Indianapolis. October 24 Kizito joined students at Butler, Sister Stella and IRSC’s Tendayi Bwititi to work with Congolese youth

On September 18 CIC’s Immigrant & Refugee Service Corps organized a big party for immigrant Indy. People of all faiths and nationalities gathered around Monument Circle to celebrate Indianapolis as a welcoming and diverse city with music, food, prizes and more!
