Hoosiers of Many Faiths in Community

“Coffee, Cake & Islam”

If you are in Fishers on a Wednesday evening, you should stop by Panera Bread (8510 E 96th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46037) for Coffee, Cake & Islam. It’s a frank and open conversation about Islam organized by CIC Board member Musaffar Ahmad. Muzaffar generously shared where the idea came from, and how you can replicate it for your neighborhood.

CIC: How did it get started?
Muzaffar: This is an initiative of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA and is being done in all 70+ of its chapters.

CIC: What has surprised participants?
Muzaffar: The participants were very happy to discuss their questions about the Islamic faith and practice of Muslims in a casual no pressure environment. They loved the idea of having a conversation over a cup of Coffee while enjoying pastries.

CIC: What advice would you have for people who’d like to organize similar conversations?
Muzaffar: I would encourage people to launch and support activates like these all over the country. Open, honest and respectful conversations are the need of this time. The more we learn about one another the more we will realize that followers to different faiths have more in common than different. This would result in a strong and more peaceful community.
