Few police officers are religion experts. That can create big problems

The goal of faith-related training sessions is to get that dialogue started. Religious leaders offer an overview of what police officers should know about their faith groups and leave lots of time for additional questions.

History was made June 12 when Imam Ahmad Alemine of Masjid Al-Fajr and CIC board member was sworn in as chaplain for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Rev. Holman says, "We don't want the first time a police officer to encounter someone of a different faith to be in the middle of a crisis situation."

“Someone who is in critical condition, all they need is someone to be next to them and fortunately we all pray to the same God,” said the imam. “If I am here for an officer who is in need and I have to pray for him, I would pray to the creator that the officer himself who believe in.”
