Dr. Jamie Higgs: The Saint John’s Bible and the Power of the Page

February 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

View and learn about how the St. John’s Bible – the first fully illuminated and hand-written Bible created since the Middle Ages—uses its power to shift focus towards women, social justice, and contemporary issues.

This event – featuring the actual St. John’s Bible! – invites the public to envision Biblical stories in new ways.  After enjoying a brief reception, Dr. Jamie Higgs, associate professor of art history at Marian University, will give a lecture exploring the history of manuscripts as tools of power and change and how art can be used to re-frame social, political, and theological issues. Guests will also be invited to view the St. John’s Bible and interact with docents who can answer additional questions.
